About the Artist

About The Artist:
Nijole Rasmussen was born and raised in Lithuania. Since 1992 she has lived in Denver. The last twenty years she has been a photographer, specializing in portraits and nature. The love of creativity and beauty has led her to painting, which she took up fifteen years ago. Nijole's paintings became yet another language to express her inner emotions and her love for beauty. Her paintings, inspired by her own photography, are powerful in captivating the viewer's imagination, an oneiric abstract mirror of what shape and form can lead us to. It is the uncommon quality for composition and color that the viewer is strongly invited to immerse himself into.
Nijole is an avid reader; a constant student of art. She loves languages and speaks several, combining them with her love to travel. All these things attribute to her photography and painting, giving endless inspiration. The artist had several solo exhibitions at Alliance Francaise de Denver, DAC, Greenwood Community Church, Lithuanian Art Gallery in Chicago, Elize' Collection Gallery. Last year the artist introduced her works with pastel. Recently she has joined D'art Gallery where she has her art shows.
Artist Statement:
Beauty in nature influences my art. I like to interpret reality into the abstract form, for the abstract is both the ultimate imitation of reality and an unfinished interpretation. Where nature ends, my paintings begin their journey. As such, I have hope that the viewer will move into his own world and finish my thoughts in his unique way.
I like to paint from my photographs of nature. When I paint, I feel I keep a Diary. It frees my imagination and provides many opportunities for happy accidents to occur. To me, the external form is only the beginning. It leads me to seeing the true value, seeing what may happen if I change the form. I strive to create a perfect balance, tension between what I saw in reality and what is seen on canvas. That is why art is an abstract journey to me. The longer I look at my art, the more abstract it becomes and therefore more real to me. An artist can be a channel through which flows the necessity of choosing life and beauty.
My work begins with emotion. With the help of creativity, color and shape lead me to that place where a painting is born. Color and shape represent essence and meaning behind my thought.
Beauty is for our enjoyment, so my hope is that the art lover may find himself enriched and fulfilled while my paintings take him or her on this journey. Beauty has a big spiritual impact on me, so my choice of a non- objective approach speaks about spirituality and endless possibilities of creativity. Beauty is not only perceived by the physical eye, but also by the eyes of the soul: beauty answers the question as to why it is there. Without Beauty and spirituality, there is no thread of human life; there is no passion or evolving thought.
